Police are searching for a masked man who attempted to rob a nail salon at gunpoint in Vernon Hills Tuesday evening.

The Vernon Hills Police Department responded around 6:35 p.m. Tuesday to 1st Spa Nail Salon, 700 North Milwaukee Avenue, for a report of an armed robbery.

Vernon Hills Deputy Police Chief Patrick Zimmerman said that a white male armed with a pistol entered the salon, which is located in Hawthorn Hills Square shopping center.

It is unknown if the suspect got away with anything, Zimmerman said, adding that he has not yet been caught but detectives are following up on leads.

Police are unsure if he fled the scene in a vehicle or on foot and no one inside the salon was injured during the robbery, Zimmerman said.

The suspect is described as being approximately 50 years old, 5-foot-8, 170 lbs, wearing glasses, a dark colored hoodie, blue jeans and a dark mask covering his face.
