A 54-year-old McHenry man was killed after his vehicle struck a tree and rolled over near Wauconda Friday morning, police said.

The Wauconda Fire District and Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 11 a.m. Friday to Neville Road west of Darrell Road in unincorporated Wauconda for a single-vehicle crash with injuries.

Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli said that a 2016 Lincoln MKC was traveling westbound on Neville Road when it left the roadway to the south and struck a tree.

After striking the tree, the Lincoln rolled over back into the middle of the roadway, Covelli said. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 54-year-old McHenry man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and is scheduling an autopsy.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team.
