The man who allegedly stole 33 chairs worth thousands of dollars from a parking garage in Lake Forest last month has been identified and charged, police said.

Jeffrey M. Evans, 50, of the 1200 block of South Estate Lane in Lake Forest, was charged on December 28 with felony burglary and two counts of theft.

Police said that Evans stole 33 chairs, valued at $6,600 total, on December 10 from an underground parking garage in the 900 block of North Western Avenue, which is near the intersection of East Woodland Road and Western Avenue in Lake Forest.

“We are asking for your help identifying the individual pictured in the this video,” the Lake Forest Police Department said in December on social media. The chairs belong to the restaurant Kuro Bistro.

A white male, later identified as Jeffrey Evans, driving a Porsche SUV was seen stealing high value chairs from a parking garage in the 900 block of North Western Avenue in Lake Forest on December 10.

Police received tips identifying Evans as the man in the surveillance video. A warrant was issued for his arrest and he turned himself in to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office on December 27.

Surveillance video shows an older model maroon Porsche Cayenne SUV driving into the parking garage before a man, identified by police as Evans, is seen exiting the vehicle. He put several thousand dollars worth of chairs into his vehicle and got back into his car.

The man attempted to hide his face from the security camera as he was exiting the garage, the video showed.

Evans has been released from the Lake County Jail after posting bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
