A six-vehicle crash left three people hospitalized in stable condition and closed Route 45 in Libertyville for hours Thursday morning.
The Libertyville Police Department and Libertyville Fire Department responded around 7:40 a.m. Thursday to Route 45 north of Peterson Road for a six-vehicle crash with injuries.
A Lake County sheriff’s deputy was the first to come upon the scene, according to Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli.
At least one person had to be extricated from their vehicle by firefighters, Covelli said. The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was activated to bring a minimum of five ambulances to the scene.
Libertyville Police Department Sgt. Edward Swider said that three people were transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center and are in stable condition. The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was called to the scene due to the severity of the crash.
Route 45 was closed from Peterson Road to Casey Road for over four hours while officers completed accident reconstruction and investigation.
The Libertyville Police Department has not released any additional information.
