A 43-year-old McHenry man was killed after a vehicle crossed the center line and crashed head-on into his car Wednesday in Round Lake, officials said.
The Round Lake Police Department, Grayslake Fire Department and Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District responded around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday to Route 60 east of Cedar Lake Road in Round Lake for a two-vehicle crash with injuries.
Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper said that a 43-year-old McHenry man was traveling in a compact sedan on Route 60 near Kristina Lane when another vehicle crossed over the center line and struck the man’s vehicle head-on.
The McHenry man, who was the driver and sole occupant of his vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. Cooper confirmed that he died of multiple injuries due to blunt force trauma.
The driver of the other vehicle survived and was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in unknown condition, Cooper said.
Route 60 was closed from Cedar Lake Road to Chardon Road for over six hours until approximately 2:30 a.m. while officers conducted accident reconstruction and their investigation.
The Round Lake Police Department was not available for comment Saturday afternoon and has not released any information regarding the crash.
