Dozens of emergency crews are responding to a Starbucks in McHenry after a pickup truck crashed through the building, leaving two people critically injured and several others hospitalized.

The McHenry Township Fire Protection District and McHenry Police Department responded around 4:42 p.m. Thursday to Starbucks, 4305 West Elm Street, for a report of a vehicle that struck the building.

At least a dozen ambulances along with fire crews from departments throughout Lake and McHenry counties were called to the scene through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS).

McHenry Police Department Public Information Officer Patrick Polidori told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that two people were critically injured and at least three others were hospitalized.

The Starbucks sustained substantial damage after the pickup truck, which was traveling westbound on Elm Street, crashed into the building.

The McHenry Police Department said that the investigation is still preliminary and more information is expected soon.
