A man ice skating on Honey Lake in North Barrington was rescued by bystanders and firefighters after he fell through the ice Friday afternoon, fire officials said.

The Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department responded around 3:07 p.m. Friday to the 400 block of Signal Hill Road in North Barrington for a report of a water rescue.

Fire officials said that a man was skating on the lake and fell through the ice. He was in the water for approximately 15 minutes before bystanders spotted him and called 911.

The bystanders were able to get a boat and rope to pull the man out of the water with the assistance of fire rescue crews.

The man was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. Lake Zurich crews were assisted by firefighters from Long Grove and Wauconda.

“We want to remind everyone to please stay off the ice,” the Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department said on Facebook.
