A 30-year-old Algonquin woman was killed after her car drove off the road, struck a tree, rolled over and then was struck by another car in Lake Barrington, the sheriff’s office said.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Wauconda Fire Protection District responded around 11:40 p.m. Tuesday to Kelsey Road and Flint Creek Drive in Lake Barrington for a two-vehicle crash with extensive damage.

A preliminary investigation shows a 2004 Nissan Altima, driven by a 30-year-old Algonquin woman, was traveling southbound on Kelsey Road just north of Flint Creek Drive, according to Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli.

For an unknown reason, the Nissan left the roadway and drove into a ditch on the west side of the road. The Nissan then struck a tree and rolled over onto its roof.

The Nissan then came to a rest in the roadway where it was then struck by a southbound 2002 Toyota Camry, driven by a 39-year-old Fox River Grove man, Covelli said.

Sheriff’s deputies attempted to free the 30-year-old woman from the Nissan in an effort to give her aid but were unsuccessful. She was pronounced deceased at the scene, Covelli said.

The driver of the Toyota sustained minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and an autopsy is being scheduled on the driver of the Nissan.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
