Georgia man wanted for rape arrested at Gurnee hotel

Demetrius Dionte Bass, 22, of LaGrange, Georgia.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshals located a Georgia man, wanted on charges of rape and sodomy in Alabama, and arrested him at a hotel in Gurnee on Thursday.

Demetrius Dionte Bass, 22, of the 500 block of Ridley Avenue in LaGrange, Georgia, was wanted out of Elmore County, Alabama on a warrant for first-degree rape and first-degree sodomy.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Team and U.S. Marshals Service – Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force received information from U.S. Marshals on the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force that Bass might be in the Lake County area avoiding apprehension.

Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli said that members of the Sheriff’s Warrants Team conducted a fugitive apprehension investigation and determined Bass was likely staying at a hotel in the 5000 block of Grand Avenue in Gurnee.

Deputies set up surveillance at the hotel and observed Bass walking through the parking lot at approximately 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Covelli said.

Deputies surrounded Bass and took him into custody without incident. He was transported to the Lake County Jail where he remains held without bail pending extradition to Alabama.

Additional information relating to the charges against Bass were not immediately available.
