A dog and two cats were rescued by firefighters from an Antioch home that was left uninhabitable after a fire destroyed the attached garage Monday morning.

The Antioch Fire Department responded around 11:55 a.m. Monday to the 42700 block of North Tiffany Road in unincorporated Antioch for a report of a structure fire. One person inside the house escaped without injuries.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire coming from three-car garage and a fire attack was initiated. Crews search and successfully rescued the family’s dog and two cats.

Fire officials credited an “aggressive fire attack” for bringing the fire under control quickly and keeping the fire damage confined to the garage.  The home sustained smoke and heat damage, leaving it uninhabitable.

Firefighters remained at the scene for approximately three hours.

Antioch fire crews were assisted by firefighters from Fox Lake, Spring Grove, Round Lake, Salem Lakes and Bristol. Pleasant Prairie and Beach Park fire departments assisted in covering calls in Antioch.

“We are thankful for the working smoke detectors in the home and there were no reported injuries. The fire remains under investigation,” the Antioch Fire Department said.
