A man who shot and killed himself at a park prompted a lockdown and search of Highland Park Hospital after there was a simultaneous report of a person with a gun in the area Monday afternoon.

The Highland Park Police Department and Highland Park Fire Department responded around 2:40 p.m. Monday to the 700 block of Park Avenue West for a gunshot victim in Sunset Woods Park.

The City of Highland Park said that officers located the victim with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced dead.

Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that the death appears to be a suicide and confirmed that the victim was a male.

Highland Park city officials said that Highland Park Hospital staff received information of a possible person with a gun in the area around the same time. The hospital was placed on lockdown and a police search of the facility and surrounding area was conducted.
