A man and woman were struck by a Mercedes-Benz sedan and suffered serious injuries after they ran in front of the vehicle Monday evening in unincorporated Lake Villa, sheriff’s officials said.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Lake Villa Fire Protection District responded around 7:40 p.m. Monday to the area of West Engle Drive and North Wildwood Drive in unincorporated Lake Villa for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle with injuries.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived and found a 45-year-old Lake Villa man and a 44-year-old Lake Villa woman with significant injuries after they were both struck by a vehicle, according to Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli.

Covelli said that a preliminary investigation shows a 2013 Mercedes-Benz C-300, driven by a 19-year-old Round Lake Park man, was traveling eastbound on Engle Drive near Wildwood Drive.

As the Mercedes-Benz traveled eastbound, the two pedestrians ran from the north side of the roadway and crossed to the other side of the street, directly in front of the Mercedes-Benz, Covelli said. The front of the Mercedes-Benz struck both pedestrians.
