Canine Boomer with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office helped capture a suspect who fled the scene of a car accident in Gurnee Friday morning, officials said.

“GOOD BOY BOOMER! Today, a local police department requested K9 Boomer’s assistance looking for a man who fled from a traffic crash,” the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook.

Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that canine Boomer assisted the Gurnee Police Department around 11:30 a.m. Friday.

An offender fled the scene of a vehicle crash at Washington Street and Hunt Club Road. Boomer tracked the scent and located the man hiding under farm equipment a quarter-mile away.

The man was arrested and is facing charges for fleeing the scene. No one was injured in the crash, Covelli said.
