A 44-year-old man was hospitalized and charged with driving under the influence after he drove his pickup truck off a 12-foot retaining wall and rolled it over in Cary Friday evening.
The Cary Police Department responded around 10:26 p.m. Friday to Jewel-Osco, 696 West Northwest Highway, for a report of a driving complaint.
Cary Deputy Police Chief Scott Naydenoff said that a 911 caller told dispatchers that a male customer appeared to be intoxicated and was leaving the parking lot in a blue pickup truck.
The truck was seen driving eastbound through the Cary Square Shopping Center parking lot.
A short time later, the Cary Police Department received additional 911 calls about a blue pickup truck that drove off a retaining wall, Naydenoff said.
Officers learned the blue pickup truck drove east across Feinberg Drive from the Cary Square Shopping Center parking lot, over a curb and a sidewalk, through a fence, and off an approximately 12-foot retaining wall.
The pickup truck came to a rest on the driver’s side of the vehicle in the Galatiโs Hideaway parking lot, 800 Feinberg Court.
The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle, 44-year old Keith Whippie, was transported to a Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington with minor injuries, Naydenoff said.
Whippie was treated and released from the hospital. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a blood alcohol concentration greater than 0.08 and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
