A police officer responding lights and sirens to a call was among two injured following a three-vehicle crash in McHenry Monday afternoon, officials said.

The crash occurred around 3:48 p.m. Monday near Route 31 just south of Route 120 in McHenry, according to McHenry Deputy Police Chief Thomas Walsh.

A 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was travelling southbound on Route 31 when it struck a 2010 Dodge Ram pickup, which had pulled over to yield to the police car, Walsh said.

The Chevrolet pickup then struck the police car, a 2013 Ford Interceptor sedan. The police car’s emergency lights and siren had been activated when the crash occurred.

The driver of the Chevrolet pickup and the police officer suffered minor injuries and were transported to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital by ambulance.

The driver of the Dodge pickup did not suffer any injuries and there were no passengers in any of the vehicles.

Route 31 between Route 120 and Main Street was closed until around 4:40 p.m. while the investigation was conducted and the vehicles were removed from the scene, Walsh said.
