Police are searching for a gunman who fired shots at a home across the street from Murphy Elementary School in Round Lake Park Tuesday morning.

The Round Lake Park Police Department and Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District were at the scene of a medical call in the 200 block of Greenwood Drive around 8:43 a.m. Tuesday.

A police officer was assisting paramedics on the call when several shots were fired at another home approximately 50 feet away, Round Lake Park Police Chief George Filenko said.

“The shots were fired towards a single family home occupied by two adults, striking the house and two vehicles parked in the driveway,” Filenko said.

The home is located directly across from Murphy Elementary School. No children were in the area during the shooting and the school was placed on soft lockdown.

Filenko said that the police officer immediately responded to the scene on foot from the first incident.

The offender was described as having a slender build and dressed in all black. He was last seen running northeast from the scene, Filenko said.
