A Harvard man has been charged with predatory criminal sexual assault of a child under 13 years old, who is a family relative of his, court records show.

Jose S. Nova-Rivera, 35, of the 1000 block of 9th Street in Harvard, has been charged with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child under 13 and four counts of criminal sexual assault.

The Harvard Police Department arrested Nova-Rivera on January 30 after an arrest warrant was issued for him the day prior.

A criminal complaint filed in court alleges that Nova-Rivera fondled the genitals of a girl under the age of 13 in 2015 and 2016. In 2017 and 2018, Nova-Rivera allegedly penetrated the girl’s genitals with his fingers, according to the complaint.

Court records show that the victim is a family relative of Nova-Rivera.

The Harvard Police Department has not released any information regarding the case.

Nova-Rivera remains held in the McHenry County Jail on a $200,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court again on February 21 for a preliminary hearing.
