Buffalo Grove police are increasing patrols and asking for homeowners to review security footage after two child luring attempts nearby in Wheeling.

The Buffalo Grove Police Department said that while no incidents have been reported in Buffalo Grove, patrols have increased around Buffalo Grove schools to help locate the suspect vehicle.

The Wheeling Police Department said that a black sedan attempted to entice a student into his vehicle with a fabricated story near Lexington Drive and Deerpath Court Tuesday afternoon.

The student, who had just gotten off a school bus, refused and ran home, police said, adding that this was the second child luring attempt in the area. The student’s school district was notified and an email was sent to parents in the district.

Police did not say where the first luring attempt occurred.

“The student is safe today because she ignored the subject’s false statement and told trusted adult about the situation. Please talk with your children about safety before and after school,” the Wheeling Police Department said in a statement.

Police also encourage parents and caretakers to stay with children at their bus stop and also wait for them when they return home.

Anyone with information about the incident or anyone who has video of the area is asked to call Wheeling police at 847-459-2632.
