Wauconda man charged with indecent solicitation of a child, police say

Corey J. Hendricks, 21, of Wauconda.

A Wauconda man has been charged after he tried to meet up with a 14-year-old girl — who was actually the police — in order to commit a sex act with the girl, authorities said.

Corey J. Hendricks, 21, of the 200 block of Heron Lane in Wauconda, was charged with indecent solicitation of a child and distribution of harmful material.

The Wauconda Police Department said that the group Worldwide Predator Hunters contacted their department in January regarding an adult male who was attempting to meet with a 14-year-old girl.

Wauconda police, along with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office Cyber Division, Children’s Advocacy Center and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Group, continued the investigation in an undercover capacity, according to Wauconda Police Department Public Information Officer Heather Cognac.

The three-month investigation came to a conclusion around 10:30 a.m. Monday when the man, identified as Hendricks, drove to a residence in the 300 block of Wethington Drive in Wauconda.

Cognac said that the man drove to the residence “with the intention of committing a sex act” with a 14-year-old girl.

“At no time was a victim in harm’s way. The offender, while in contact via text with whom he believed to be a 14 year old girl, approached the residence on foot and attempted to gain entry,” Cognac said.

Hendricks was immediately taken into custody without incident. He was charged and transported to Lake County Jail where he remains held on a $100,000 bond.

Hendricks is scheduled to appear in court again on March 31.
