Mario J. Colindres-Galeano, 26, of Waukegan.

A Waukegan man wanted on child pornography and sexual abuse charges was arrested after he tried fleeing a home in Louisiana through an access hatch of a chicken coup, police said.

Mario J. Colindres-Galeano, 26, of the 2100 block of Williamsburg Drive in Waukegan, was arrested after a search was launched by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Team, U.S. Marshals Service – Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force, and U.S. Marshals Service – New Orleans Fugitive Task Force, to locate the man.

The Waukegan Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for Colindres-Galeano on December 4 for aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Another warrant was issued the following day for the man after he failed to appear in court on aggravated criminal sexual abuse and child pornography charges. The collective bond on the warrants was $1.5 million.

Warrants deputies learned Colindres-Galeano was actively attempting to avoid apprehension, according to Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli.

“During the course of the fugitive investigation, warrants deputies learned Colindres-Galeano fled Illinois and was hiding in Louisiana,” Covelli said.

On Thursday, warrants deputies contacted U.S. Marshals in New Orleans and they determined Colindres-Galeano was hiding at a residence in the 19400 block of Slemmer Road in Covington, Louisiana.

U.S. Marshals served the arrest warrant on Monday.

“After approaching the residence, Colindres-Galeano was observed trying to flee the residence from the rear access hatch of a chicken coup, which was attached to the home,” Covelli said.

Colindres-Galeano was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the St. Tammany Parish Jail where he remains held pending extradition hearings.
