An early morning fire at an apartment building in Gages Lake left two people injured and five people displaced, fire officials said.

The Grayslake Fire Protection District responded around 1:22 a.m. Monday to the 33600 block of Evergreen Drive in Gages Lake for a report of a structure fire.

Grayslake Fire Protection District Battalion Chief James Weidman said that firefighters quickly extinguished a fire in the lower level garage area of a two-story apartment complex, which has six units.

Two civilians suffered injuries due to the fire. One of them was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in unknown condition, Weidman said.

The other person was treated by paramedics and declined transport to a hospital. Two of the apartments were deemed uninhabitable and five residents have been displaced, Weidman said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and a preliminary loss estimate was not immediately available.
