Police are investigating after gunshots rang out Sunday morning in the Horizon Village apartment complex in Zion — leaving a 33-year-old man injured.

The Zion Police Department responded around 8:30 a.m. Sunday to the 4200 block of Barberry Lane for multiple reports of gunshots in the area.

“Callers reported hearing four gunshots, people running and a vehicle driving over the grass. Responding officers did not locate any victims but spoke to several witnesses,” Zion Chief of Police Kirk Henderson said.

Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan called Zion police around 9 a.m. and reported that a victim with a single gunshot wound to the leg had been dropped off at their emergency room.

Officers and detectives met with the 33-year-old man and recovered physical evidence, Henderson said. The victim’s injury is not considered life-threatening.
