A Wonder Lake man who pleaded guilty to criminal sexual assault has been sentenced to six years in prison, court records show.

Randy J. Peterson, 57, of the 7600 block of South Oak Road in Wonder Lake, accepted a negotiated plea deal on Wednesday before McHenry County Judge Michael Coppedge.

Peterson pleaded guilty to criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony, and in exchange prosecutors dismissed a criminal sexual abuse charge.

Peterson was sentenced to six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections pursuant to the plea. He will have to register as a sex offender for his natural life after being released from prison.

Peterson will have to pay $1,800 in court fees and fines, court records show. The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office did not release any details regarding the assault.

The case was investigated by Detective Thomas Ferraro of the Wonder Lake Police Department and prosecuted by Susanne Groebner of the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.
