Police are investigating the death of a 49-year-old woman after she was found by fishermen in a channel near her Fox Lake home on Tuesday.

The Fox Lake Police Department and Fox Lake Fire Protection District responded around 12:15 p.m. Tuesday to 600 block of Monterrey Terrace in Fox Lake for a report of a body in the water.

Fox Lake Police Chief Jimmy Lee said that fishermen found the woman in a channel, which leads to Pistakee Lake, and called 911. The Lake County Coroner’s Office identified the woman as Cheryl Skinner.

Lee said that Skinner lived with her family in the 700 block of Kingston Boulevard, which is nearby where she had been found.

Her family had last seen her Monday evening and her husband left early in the morning on Tuesday for work, Lee said.

Lee and Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper both said it is believed the woman drowned but a cause of death has not been officially ruled.

An autopsy conducted Wednesday morning showed no signs of trauma on Skinner’s body. Toxicology results are pending.

Neighbors told detectives that Skinner often took walks near the channel in the morning, Lee said.
