A man was charged after a two-vehicle crash in Old Mill Creek Wednesday evening that left a woman trapped in her rolled over car, police said.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Gurnee Fire Department responded around 11:05 p.m. Wednesday to Stearns School Road east of Route 45 in Old Mill Creek, which is near Gurnee, for a two-vehicle crash with injuries.
Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli said that a Toyota sedan, driven by a 23-year-old Waukegan man, was traveling eastbound on Stearns School Road.
A Kia SUV, driven by a 23-year-old Waukegan woman, was traveling westbound on Stearns School Road when the Toyota sedan crossed the double yellow lines.
The Toyota sideswiped the Kia, causing the Kia to drive into the ditch and roll over, Covelli said.
The woman driving the Kia was trapped inside her vehicle and firefighters had to extricate her. She was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with non-life-threatening injuries, Covelli said.
The driver of the Toyota, identified as Miguel Angel Guzman Garcia, told deputies he was unfamiliar with the area and had looked to check his GPS, causing him to cross the double yellow lines.
Garcia, of the 500 block of North Ash Street in Waukegan, was charged with driving on a suspended driver’s license and improper lane usage. He is scheduled to appear in branch court next month.
