A detached garage caught fire late Friday evening and caused $60,000 in damage in Island Lake, fire officials said.

The Wauconda Fire District responded around 11:34 p.m. Friday to the 3500 block of Eastway Drive in Island Lake for a report of a structure fire.

The Island Lake Police Department arrived at the scene first and found a detached garage that was fully involved in flames with a home just 10 feet away from the fire.

Firefighters arrived on scene three minutes after receiving the call and confirmed the garage fire. The crew pulled a hose line and began extinguishing the fire.

A second fire crew was able to gain entry through the front overhead doors and the hose line was moved to extinguish the bulk of the fire, the fire district said.

The fire was declared under control at 11:53 p.m. and crews were released from the scene just after 1 a.m. No injuries were reported.
