Joseph P. Nolan, 28, of Deer Park.

A Deer Park man was arrested after allegedly kicking a McHenry County sheriff’s deputy in the chest following a DUI crash near Hebron, authorities said.

Joseph P. Nolan, 28, of the 20800 block of Juniper Lane in Deer Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, aggravated battery to a government employee, resisting a peace officer and unlawful possession of cannabis.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Hebron Fire Protection District responded around 6:43 p.m. Friday to Route 47 and Allendale Road in Greenwood Township near Hebron for a single-vehicle crash.

McHenry County Sheriff Sgt. Aimee Knop said that Nolan drove a 2003 Honda Odyssey minivan off the roadway and struck a mailbox. Paramedics evaluated the man at the scene.

Deputies determined Nolan was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash and took him into custody, Knop said.

“[He] became belligerent and uncooperative with deputies, spitting at them and kicking deputies,” Knop told Lake and McHenry County Scanner.

Court records show the man kicked a female sheriff’s deputy in the chest while he was in the back of a squad car.

Nolan was released from the McHenry County Jail on Tuesday after posting 10% of his $40,000 bond.
