Three men were charged with physically attacking and robbing someone at gunpoint during a drug deal on Easter morning in Antioch, police said.
The Antioch Police Department responded around 10:40 a.m. April 12 to Centennial Park, 701 Anita Avenue, for a report of a fight in progress.
Antioch Police Department Sgt. Charles Smith said that an investigation conducted showed the incident stemmed from a group of individuals who physically attacked another person over money and drugs.
One of the suspects involved also displayed a pistol, which was later determined to be a BB gun, Smith said.
“This was an isolated incident, as all parties had pre-arranged to meet at the park with the intent of committing a transaction,” Smith added.
Officers were able to identify the suspects and two of them were immediately taken into custody.
Anthony Baez, 19, of Antioch, and Paris Washington, 20, of Antioch, were charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated assault. Baez was also charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
The third suspect, identified as Patrick Mathis, 23, of Antioch, fled the scene before police arrived but was later identified. An arrest warrant for aggravated robbery and robbery was issued for him.
Mathis was taken into custody on April 17 by the Antioch Police Department.
All three suspects remain held in the Lake County Jail. Baez and Washington remain held on a $50,000 bond while Mathis remains held on a $30,000 bond.
