Police are investigating after a man was found dead underneath a tree in a Round Lake Park neighborhood Sunday morning.

The Round Lake Park Police Department and Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District responded around 10:40 a.m. Sunday to Sandy Point Drive and Lake Shore Drive for a suspicious circumstances call.

A female resident was walking in the area when she noticed a subject laying under an evergreen tree, according to Round Lake Park Police Chief George Filenko.

Responding officers discovered what appeared to be a deceased person and paramedics pronounced the person dead at the scene.

Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper said that the body was ‘pretty decomposed’ and appeared to be a male.

Cooper said that the death does not appear to be suspicious; however, Filenko called the death suspicious.

An autopsy will be conducted on Monday and dental records and DNA will be needed to identify the man, Cooper said. It is unclear how long the man had been deceased.

Filenko said that his department continues to investigate along with the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

“Until an autopsy is completed and an identification is made we’re not in a position to come to any conclusions about this incident and will continue our investigation,” Filenko said.
