A missing Round Lake Park man and father of three kids was found dead underneath a tree in Round Lake Park on Sunday, police said.

Stephen Krizanovic, 36, was last seen on March 3 at his residence in the 500 block of Grandview Drive in Round Lake Park.

Police had been called to the home for a report of a dispute and Krizanovic left the home on a bicycle prior to police arriving, according to Round Park Police Chief George Filenko.

Krizanovic was reported missing to police on March 8 and an extensive investigation began, Filenko said. Detectives obtained leads by various sources that led them to a number of locations in Illinois and Wisconsin.

On Sunday, the Round Lake Park Police Department and Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District responded around 10:40 a.m. to Sandy Point Drive and Lake Shore Drive for a suspicious circumstances call.

A female resident was on a walk in the area when she noticed a subject laying under an evergreen tree, according to Filenko. Responding officers discovered what appeared to be a deceased person and paramedics pronounced the person dead at the scene.

Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper said that the body was ‘pretty decomposed’ and it was identified on Monday as Krizanovic.

Krizanovic was found wearing the same clothes he had on the evening he was reported missing. His bicycle was also found next to him.

Pre-existing medical conditions and drugs in Krizanovic’s system may have contributed to his death, Filenko said.

An autopsy showed no indication of foul play being involved. It is unclear how long the man had been deceased.
