A 22-year-old man is in critical condition after he crashed head-on into another car in Beach Park Saturday evening, police said.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Beach Park Fire Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 8:45 p.m. Saturday to Sheridan Road and Mawman Avenue in Beach Park for a two-vehicle crash with injuries.

Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli said that a preliminary investigation shows a Chevrolet Impala, driven by a 22-year-old North Chicago man, was traveling southbound on Sheridan Road.

For an unknown reason, the driver of the Chevrolet crossed into the northbound lanes of Sheridan Road, striking a Nissan Rogue head-on as it traveled northbound, Covelli said.

The 22-year-old driving the Chevrolet was transported by ambulance to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan where he remains in critical condition.

The driver of the Nissan, a 37-year-old Waukegan man, was transported by ambulance to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan with minor injuries.

The roadway was closed for approximately three hours for the accident investigation.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriffโ€™s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
