A 55-year-old Wadsworth man was critically injured after he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed in the parking lot of Costco in Mettawa.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Lake Forest Fire Department and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District responded around 6:10 p.m. Saturday to the Costco Wholesale, 25901 Riverwoods Road in Mettawa for a vehicle crash.

Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli said that deputies responded to the parking lot of the store and found a single-vehicle motorcycle crash.

A preliminary investigation shows the driver of a Honda Gold Wing Motorcycle, a 55-year-old Wadsworth man, was traveling in the parking lot.

For an unknown reason, he accelerated at a high rate of speed, causing the front wheel of the motorcycle to rise from the roadway, Covelli said.

The driver, who was not wearing a helmet, lost control and crashed. He suffered critical injuries and was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
