Good Samaritans helped rescue two men from the water after their boat capsized on McCullom Lake near McHenry Tuesday morning.

The McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded around 9:34 a.m. Tuesday to the 4800 block of West Shore Drive in McHenry for a report of a water rescue.

Firefighters and police arrived and found two people still in the water approximately 125 yards from shore, according to Battalion Chief David Harwood.

“Citizens who live on the lake near where the people went into the water had already boarded their boat and were navigating to where the people were in the water,” Harwood said, adding that firefighters boarded another boat and also went out onto the lake.

“Due to the quick work of the citizens, both people were out of the water and on their boat when the firefighters reached them,” Harwood said. Both people that had been in the water were transported by boat to ambulances waiting for them on shore.
