Two men were arrested after a 22-year-old man was stabbed and robbed during a ‘transaction’ near Crystal Lake Thursday morning, police said.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 8 a.m. Thursday to the 7500 block of Redwood Street in unincorporated Crystal Lake for a report of a stabbing.

Sheriff’s deputies responded and learned that two offenders set up a transaction with the victim.

During the transaction, an altercation ensued and the victim, a 22-year-old Crystal Lake man, was stabbed in the hand with an edge weapon, according to McHenry County Sheriff Sgt. Aimee Knop.

It is unclear what type of transaction occurred and detectives continue to investigate, Knop said.

The victim was transported by a Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department ambulance to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.

The two offenders, identified as Edgar Cardoso, 22, of Dwight, and Zachary M. Nunes, 20, of Woodstock, both left the scene in a vehicle before police arrived.

Knop said the investigation resulted in a search warrant of a resident in the 1400 block of Commons Drive in Woodstock around 3 p.m. Thursday. Nunes and Cardoso were taken into custody and police seized about $6,800 in cash.

Cardoso was charged with aggravated robbery, two counts of aggravated battery, two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful delivery of cannabis, and possession of cannabis.

Nunes was charged with two counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance and three counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

The Woodstock Police Department and the Crystal Lake Police Department assisted and the investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriffโ€™s Office Investigation Division.
