A stolen Jeep was found completely submerged and abandon in a creek in Wonder Lake Monday morning, police said.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Wonder Lake Fire Protection District responded around 9:10 a.m. Monday to the 4200 block of West Lake Shore Drive in Wonder Lake for a vehicle in the creek.
A homeowner told sheriff’s deputies they were looking outside at the creek when they saw a vehicle under the water, according to McHenry County Sheriff Sgt. Aimee Knop.
The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was utilized to bring area fire department boats and rescue divers to the scene.
The vehicle, a white 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was recovered and no one was found inside it or around it in the water, Knop told Lake and McHenry County Scanner.
Police confirmed the vehicle was reported stolen early Monday morning. It was believed to have been stolen sometime between 9:30 p.m. Sunday and 8:10 a.m. Monday in Wonder Lake, Knop said.
The incident remains under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.
