Police are asking the public for their assistance in locating a Zion man who is considered endangered and has been missing since April.

Yamil A. Melendez-Ortiz, 39, was last seen on April 23 and was reported missing to police three days later on April 26.

The Zion Police Department posted on social media on Tuesday asking the public for assistance in the case.

Zion Police Lt. Eric Barden told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that Melendez-Ortiz was last seen leaving his family’s home in the 3200 block of Enoch Avenue.

Melendez-Ortiz left the residence on foot where he was seen wearing a white sweater. No other clothing description was available.

Melendez-Ortiz is described as a male Hispanic with brown hair and brown eyes. He is 5-foot-6 and weighs 200 pounds.

Barden would not say why detectives consider the man to be endangered. He said that the case is still active and being investigated.
