Two men who attempted to rob a gas station in Vernon Hills at gunpoint were unsuccessful after the clerk refused their demands for money, police said.

The Vernon Hills Police Department responded around 3:11 a.m. Sunday to Bucky’s Convenience Store, 294 East Townline Road, for a report of an armed robbery.

Vernon Hills Police Department Spokesman Jeff Hemesath said that responding officers spoke with the on-duty clerk who reported two men wearing hoods entered the store.

One of them brandished a pistol and demanded cash from the register. The clerk refused to comply and the suspects fled the scene, Hemesath said.

No arrests have been made and the incident remains under investigation. No injuries were reported during the incident.

Police have not yet released any surveillance photos of the suspects. It is unknown if the men fled the scene on foot or in a vehicle.
