A 21-year-old man was fatally shot in front of his home in unincorporated Gurnee Friday evening and police are searching for the shooter.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Gurnee Fire Department responded around 9:50 p.m. Friday to the 36900 block of North Grandwood Drive in unincorporated Gurnee for a report of a person shot.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene and located a 21-year-old man, who lives on the block, with at least one gunshot wound to his body.

The man was unresponsive and sheriff’s deputies attempted lifesaving efforts on him before paramedics arrived. Paramedics transported the victim to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he was later pronounced dead.

A preliminary investigation shows the victim met with another person near the roadway close to the victim’s residence, according to Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli.

The person the victim met with then fired shots at the victim and fled from the scene. The victim was likely acquainted with the offender and this was not a random act, Covelli said.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to Advocate Condell Medical Center and is in the process of scheduling an autopsy on the victim.

The shooting remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division.
