Police are investigating after an adult man was found dead in a detention pond next to a convenience store in Round Lake Beach Saturday morning.
The Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District and Round Lake Beach Police Department responded around 11:26 a.m. to Express Food and Liquor, 1306 North Cedar Lake Road.
Round Lake Beach Deputy Police Chief Wayne Wilde said that officers and paramedics determined a person was deceased in the detention pond adjacent to the store.
Detectives do not suspect foul play and the identity of the body will be released once their family members have been notified, Wilde said.
“This appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no danger to the community at this time,” Wilde said.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and an autopsy is being scheduled.
Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that the body had been there for some time but it is unknown exactly how long, and an autopsy will help determine it.
Cooper added that the body was an adult male.
The incident remains under investigation by the Lake County Coroner’s Office and Round Lake Beach Police Department.
