A woman is dead and two others, including a child, were seriously injured after a car drove into the opposite lane of traffic and struck two motorcycles in Holiday Hills.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and McHenry Township Fire District responded around 7:26 p.m. Wednesday to South River Road north of Sunset Drive in Holiday Hills for a report of a three-vehicle crash with injuries.
The crash involved a 2017 Acura TLX, a 2003 Harley-Davidson FLSTF Fat Boy motorcycle, and a 2005 Harley-Davidson Trike.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said that the Acura had been traveling northbound on South River Road.
The Acura, driven by a 20-year-old McHenry woman, went into the southbound lane of traffic where it struck both motorcycles, causing the riders to be ejected from their vehicles.
The driver of the 2003 Harley-Davidson was a 65-year-old Lake in the Hills man. A 56-year-old McHenry woman was driving the 2005 Harley-Davidson and a 9-year-old girl from Mandeville, Louisiana was in the passenger.
A medical helicopter transported the 65-year-old McHenry man to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he remains in critical condition.
An ambulance transported the 56-year-old McHenry woman to Advocate Condell Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.
The 9-year-old passenger was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry with serious injuries. The drivers of the motorcycles were not wearing helmets but the young girl was, the sheriff’s office said.
Authorities said the driver of the Acura did not sustain any injuries. Police closed the roadway for approximately six hours while an accident investigation took place.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resource Police, Island Lake Police Department and Nunda-Rural Fire Protection District assisted at the scene.
The investigation continues by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit, Holiday Hills Police Department and the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
