A man has been charged with DUI after two vehicles and a motorcycle crashed in Crystal Lake, leaving the motorcyclist dead Tuesday afternoon.
The Crystal Lake Fire/Rescue Department and Crystal Lake Police Department responded around 4:38 p.m. Tuesday to the Route 31 south of Drake Drive for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
Crystal Lake Deputy Police Chief Thomas Kotlowski said that an investigation showed that a black Ford SUV was traveling northbound on Route 31 when it collided with a silver Jeep SUV that was also traveling northbound.
The Jeep crossed into the southbound lane of traffic where it crashed into a motorcycle, driven by an adult male.
The motorcyclist was transported to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry where he was later pronounced dead, Kotlowski said.
The man’s identity is being withheld pending notification to his family members.
The Ford SUV was driven by Robert A. Roth, 69, of Crystal Lake. He was found to be driving with a blood alcohol content level of more than 0.08, which is over the legal limit, Kotlowski said.
Roth was arrested and charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol causing death and two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol.
The crash remains under investigation by the Crystal Lake Accident Investigation Team and the McHenry County Coronerโs Office.
