A 15-year-old girl is in critical condition and another girl was injured after a pickup truck crashed into a pole after trying to overtake several vehicles near Woodstock.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Woodstock Fire/Rescue District responded around 2:39 p.m. Monday to the 10500 block of Charles Road in unincorporated Woodstock for a single-vehicle crash.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived and found a 2006 Mitsubishi Raider that had crashed on Charles Road east of Timberline Trail.

An investigation showed the Mitsubishi was traveling eastbound on Charles Road. It attempted to overtake several vehicles by passing in the westbound lane of traffic, the sheriff’s office said.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 17-year-old girl, lost control of the vehicle for an unknown reason and drove off the north side of the roadway where it struck a utility pole.

A Mercyhealth REACT helicopter landed at the scene and flew a 15-year-old Harvard girl, who was a passenger in the vehicle, to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.

An ambulance transported the 17-year-old girl to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Woodstock where she was in good condition and later released from the hospital Monday night.

The 15-year-old girl has been stabilized but remains in critical condition, the sheriff’s office said.

It is unknown if the driver and passenger were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash and no airbags deployed. Drug and alcohol use is not suspected.

The roadway was closed for approximately five hours for the crash investigation and for ComEd to complete repairs. The investigation into the crash continues by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit.
