A woman whose boat overturned was rescued after she was found clinging to a downed tree in the middle of the Fox River near McHenry on Saturday.

The McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded around 8:36 p.m. to the McHenry Dam State Park in unincorporated McHenry for a reported water rescue.

McHenry Township Fire Protection District Lt. Chris Gumm said it was reported that a boat had flipped over and a woman was in the water.

Firefighters arrived within six minutes and found the woman clinging to a downed tree in the middle of the river just south of the dam.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit had two police boats in the area during the incident that also responded to assist.

The adult female was rescued from the water in a coordinated rescue effort by firefighters and sheriff’s deputies.

It took 25 minutes to remove the woman from the water from the time responders arrived at the scene, Gumm said. The woman was evaluated and treated for minor injuries before being released at the scene.

The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was activated for area fire departments to provide coverage for calls in McHenry during the incident.
