A police officer and bystanders helped revive a motorcyclist who was involved in a serious crash with a vehicle Sunday evening in Antioch.

The Antioch Fire Department and Antioch Police Department responded around 7:05 p.m. Sunday to the intersection of Route 173 and Deep Lake Road for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.

A 2014 Honda Accord, driven by a 17-year-old Antioch woman, and a 2005 Yamaha motorcycle, driven by a 27-year-old Kenosha, Wisconsin man, collided in the intersection.

The driver of the Yamaha was found down on the roadway where he was unresponsive and not breathing.

The first arriving police officer along with passing motorists rendered lifesaving aid to the downed man, according to a statement from the Antioch Police Department.

They administered CPR and the officer’s Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to restore the motorcyclist’s pulse.

The man was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he is listed in critical condition. The driver of the Honda was not injured.

The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team was called to assist the Antioch Police Department with the investigation. The cause of the crash is not known, police said.
