A 23-year-old man was shot by someone he knew during a meetup in Gurnee early Sunday morning, police said.
The Gurnee Police Department responded around 12:30 a.m. Sunday to an apartment complex in the 4300 block of McClure Avenue for a reported shooting.
Gurnee Police Department Public Information Officer Shawn Gaylor said that 911 callers reported hearing gunshots in the area and someone yelling for help.
Officers found a 23-year-old Gurnee man who had sustained a gunshot wound to his back. Officers rendered aid until paramedics arrived.
Gaylor said that the victim was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he remains with non-life-threatening injuries.
Detectives believe the victim met with an acquaintance in the parking lot of the complex, near the victim’s apartment, around 12:30 a.m.
The victim was shot in the back by the acquaintance and the offender fled the area before police arrived. Shell casings were recovered in the vicinity of where the victim was located.
“The incident appears to be an isolated occurrence, and there is currently no threat to the public. It was not a random act as the victim knows the offender. There is no offender information available at this time,” Gaylor said.
