Police are searching for a gunman who fatally shot a 44-year-old man multiple times late Sunday evening in Zion.

A Zion police officer was flagged down in the 2800 block of Galilee Avenue around 11 p.m. Sunday for a report of a person possibly passed out.

Officers located an individual in a grassy common area and noticed he had sustained several gunshot wounds to his lower body, according to Zion Police Chief Kirk Henderson.

Officers began providing first aid to the 44-year-old man and requested an ambulance from the Zion Fire and Rescue Department.

Family members identified the man to Lake and McHenry County Scanner as Robert L. Norris, Jr., of Zion.

Paramedics transported Norris to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan where he was pronounced dead shortly after midnight, Henderson said.

The Lake County Major Crime Task Force was requested to assist in the investigation. The Lake County Coroner’s Office is scheduling an autopsy.
