A Lake Zurich man has been charged with possessing child pornography and having sex with a teen, police said.
Gary A. Zimmer, 51, of the 1-99 block of Lakeview Place in Lake Zurich, was charged with three counts of possession of child pornography and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
The Lake Zurich Police Department was notified on April 21 by the Barrington Police Department of an incident that occurred in Lake Zurich involving Zimmer.
Lake Zurich Deputy Police Chief David Anderson said that Zimmer had conversations on the dating site Grindr with a 15-year-old from Barrington.
No sexual activity occurred between Zimmer and the 15-year-old. Zimmer admitted to detectives during an interview that he possessed child pornography and photographed another juvenile who he knew.
Detectives located photos on Zimmerโs cell phone which were taken at his residence in Lake Zurich. An arrest warrant was issued on June 16 for three counts of possession of child pornography.
The man turned himself in to the Lake Zurich Police Department without incident the following day.
Zimmer was transported to the Lake County jail. Follow-up interviews and analysis of electronic devices revealed Zimmer had sexual with a different 15-year-old juvenile at his residence in Lake Zurich and an address in Volo, Anderson said.
A search warrant was conducted at Zimmer’s residence on June 23 and two days later he was charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
Zimmer remains held on a $250,000 bond and will appear in court on July 15. Additional charges are pending.
