A 49-year-old man died after his car veered into oncoming lanes and struck a dump truck in Buffalo Grove on Monday.

The Buffalo Grove Police Department and Buffalo Grove Fire Department responded around 2:30 p.m. Monday to Lake Cook Road and Raupp Boulevard for a vehicle crash with injuries.

Buffalo Grove Police Department Community Relations Officer Meghan Hansen said that a 2015 Subaru Legacy was traveling westbound on Lake Cook Road.

The Subaru veered into the eastbound lanes for an unknown reason and struck a 1995 Peterbilt dump truck.

The driver of the Subaru, identified as 49-year-old John Rodgers IV, was transported to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights in critical condition.

Rodgers, of Buffalo Grove, died later that evening in the hospital, Hansen said. The driver of the dump truck was uninjured.

Lake Cook Road was closed for over four hours while crash investigators worked at the scene.

Police are looking for any witnesses to the crash and ask that they call 847-459-2560 and speak with Traffic Unit Officer Michael Carlson.
