A 27-year-old Waukegan man died after he was rescued from Lake Michigan at the Illinois Beach State Park in Zion on Sunday.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Beach Park Fire Department responded around 5 p.m. Sunday to the Illinois Beach State Park in unincorporated Zion for a report of a water rescue.

Paramedics arrived and transported the man to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan where he was pronounced dead.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Police also responded and are conducting an investigation.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the hospital and has scheduled an autopsy on the man, whose identity is being withheld, for Tuesday.
