Sheriff’s deputies used a canine, drone and thermal imaging to search for a driver who fled the scene of a fiery rollover crash near Marengo late Friday evening.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Marengo Fire Protection District responded around 11:48 p.m. to the 8100 block of South Coral Road in unincorporated Marengo for a single-vehicle crash.

A 2003 Chevy S-10 pickup truck was traveling southbound on South Coral Road, according to McHenry County Sheriff’s Deputy Sandra Rogers.

The Chevy drove off the roadway to the west and rolled over onto its roof before catching on fire. Gasoline leaked from the vehicle and caused the fire to fully engulf the truck.

Sheriff’s deputies and firefighters did not find anyone inside the Chevy and began an extensive search of the area.

Rogers said that a canine unit, drone and thermal imaging technology was used in the three-hour search.

The Marengo Police Department also assisted but officers were not able to locate anyone.
